Biography of Lizhi Su

Lizhi Su received his BS in 1997 and his MS in 1999 in Materials Science and Engineering from Zhejiang University, which is one of the top 5 universities in China. In 2000, he went to Japan and joined the Tribology Laboratory at Tohoku University. He started his Ph.D. program under the direction of Prof. K. Kato in the field of tribology and mechatronics for magnetic recording. His Ph.D. research was in cooperation with Hitachi Ltd. Japan. He was dispatched to Mechanical Engineering Research Laboratory of Hitachi Ltd. Japan. He received his Ph.D. degree in 2003. After working as a postdoctoral researcher for one year at Storage Technology Research Center of Hitachi Ltd. Japan, he then joined the Tribology and Mechanics Laboratory of Prof. Talke at Center for Magnetic Recording Research (CMRR) at UCSD. His research interests are in the area of tribology and mechatronics of the head/disk interface of hard disk drives, specifically, on the friction control between a head-slider and a disk using MEMS sensors and actuators.
