Hidekazu Kohira was born on Jan.24, 1967 in Kumamoto, Japan. He graduated from KOHNODAI high school in Chiba and entered the science and engineering department of KEIO University in 1985. He studied Mechanical Engineering, especially vibration and control. In 1989, he joined HITACHI Mechanical Engineering Laboratory in Ibaraki and attended a project for developing a new kind of printer. From 1993, he was involved in HDD's developing project and moved to HITACHI Storage System Divisions in Kanagawa. He is responsible for developing and designing new sliders for their new products and is interested in tribological issues relating with proximity recording. He has been attending CMRR in UCSD starting from Sep.13, 1998 as a visiting scholar and investigating friction, Acoustic Emission and wear of ABS overcoat of proximity recording sliders.
