Biography of Christian Bittner

Christian was born 1972 in Dresden, Germany. After the junior high school he got an apprenticeship as Measurement and Control Technician at the Institute of Solid State and Materials Research in Dresden. During this apprenticeship Christian successfully completed his senior high school in evening classes. In the fall of 1993 Christian started studies in electrical engineering at the Dresden University of Technology. He specialized in precision engineering with focal points in development and design. At present Christian is in the 9th semester of a 10 semester program and is doing a practical training as a visiting schoolar at the University of California, San Diego, CMRR.

His current project is about the relationship between the signal noise of a magnetic tape and the surface roughness of the tape. This project requires the mechanical improvement of a tape looper, a device to drive an endless loop of magnetic tape. Furthermore, it is planned to take measurements of tape noise from the tape looper and of surface roughness from an optical profilometer. Finally, the results of these measurements will be described in a research paper.

After finishing the project Christian will write his thesis for the master degree at Dresden University of Technology.

Christians hobbies are riding, hiking and photography.
