Izhak Etsion

 

Professor Etsion received his D.Sc. in Aeronautical Engineering in 1974 from Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. Currently he is a chaired professor of Mechanical Engineering at Technion and head of the Shamban Tribology Laboratory. His research activity in Tribology was carried out at Technion as well as other institutes among them: NASA, Atomic Energy of Canada, Northwestern University and U.C. Berkeley.

Dr. Etsion is the author and co-author, together with his many graduate students, of over 120 technical publications on various aspects of Tribology. He holds 15 patents and is the founder of Surface Technologies Ltd. (www.surface-tech.com) an Israeli based company that develops technologies for friction and wear reduction. His research interests are in hydrodynamic lubrication, surface texturing, contact mechanics, nano-tribology and bio-tribology.

In addition to his academic and industrial activities, Dr. Etsion also served the Tribology community as founder of the Israel Tribology Society, Associate Editor of the ASME Journal of Tribology, Secretary of the ASME Tribology Division Executive Committee, Chairman of ASME TD Nomination and Oversight Committee, and member of the STLE Seals Technical Committee.

Dr. Etsion is a Member of the Israel Tribology Society, Fellow of the ASME and Fellow of the STLE. He is also the recipient of the STLE 2005 International Award.
