Youyi is a Ph.D student major in Mechanical Engineering at Center for Magnetic Recording Research of University of California, San Diego. He joined Professor Talke's lab in 2011. His research interests are in the areas of experimental and numerical study of tribological problems such as wear generation at the dimple/gimbal interface and wear generation at the lift-tab/ramp interface in hard disk drive. He also works on the investigation of lubricant transfer and lubricant diffusion at the head/disk interface.

In 2010, Youyi got his bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. In March 2013, he obtained his master degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of California, San Diego. He advanced to Ph.D candidate in September 2013 and is expected to graduate in December 2015.
